E1.1 Play and practise with your icons
 
   - Switch between small and large icons.  Use 'Toggle icon size' 
     in the Menubar/View menu or in the Desktop menu

   - Sort icons (see the Menubar/View menu or the Desktop menu)

   - Move your icons around, re-arrange them.


E1.2 Find the Metview version number

  - Metview's version number can be found in 2 places:
    a) Help | About Desktop menu item
    b) plot some data - in the Display Window, there is a Help
       menu; choose 'About uPlot' to see some version information.

  - Not covered, here, there is a Macro function which also returns
    version information


E1.3 Discover the Coastlines icon

  - Re-visualise your GRIB data (t1000.grb)	

  - Modify your Coastlines icon in the described ways 
    (after each modification step save and drag your 
    Coastlines icon into the Display Window to see the
    effect of your changes): 
  
  	- Zoom to a European area and change 
          
		- the grid line style to 'dash'	

		- the grid increment to 2.5 degrees 
	
 		- the map labeling to 10 degrees

	You must hit ENTER after editing text fields in the
        icon editor!


E1.4 Explore map boundaries, etc

  - Switch on the plotting of country boundaries

  - Switch on the plotting of local administrative boundaries; it is
    best to zoom into a smaller area before adding too much detail to the map!
    
  - Restrict the administrative boundaries to a particular country or list
    of slash-separated countries


E1.5 Mix your own colours

  - Try to change the sea-shade colour to a paler shade of blue

    - activate the colour-selection drop-down menu
    
    - use the colour wheel to select a new colour
    
    - use your preferred colour space to create a nice pale blue; once
      you are happy with the colour in the preview box, click the
      'Select colour' button to use it. Note that your new colour will
      only be available when editing this icon.
